Wearing Bins whilst playing football....
Had no game yesterday so watched a bit of kids football whilst out with the hound.. what amazed me was one game where I reckon out of the 22 players + subs I reckon 8 of them were running around wearing Bins... like a team of Harry Potters ... I then had to take some paperwork over the club so decided to pop over and watch a few of the games going on... the Vets game... no bins... the seniors game.. 2 pairs of bins... one of the young blokes wore bins taped to the side of his head… looked a absolute freak… no more so when he climbed like a salmon and thundered home a header from a corner… and his bins exploded into about 10 pieces… Ha ha Ha… bloke got subbed as he never had any spares and could not see... what a bunch of binny freaks...

... now my question is.... why the fuck do people not wear contact lenses when playing football or any other sports??

Blind freaks

Back when most of us were young, I suspect that opticians was a service more than a business.

I reckon a big majority of kids these days if they'd had their eyes tested 30 years ago would not have been prescribed glasses?

It's more likely to be a money thing than a health thing however I suspect we are not as healthy as we were 30 years ago so this might also make a difference.

I used to use prescription googles for swimming.

Forget which internet company supplied them, but there's probably a few

As a kid I had some teammates who would play with a BIN liner or supermarket carrier bag with holes cut for their arms.

This would be worn under the normal football shirt in winter conditions when it was bollock freezingly cold.

No under armour heat gear in those days.

And only the goalies wore gloves

Yeah I know that but you were wondering how glasses could stay on, I just mentioned Davids as an example, I think you can get prescription lenses for goggles?

They were for eye protection rather than vision. Contact lenses wouldn't have done the trick for him.

'In 1999, Davids began wearing protective glasses following surgery in his right eye caused by glaucoma,[33] which developed in 1995 following eye injuries.'

I played with my glasses on, it was not even mentioned to me that I needed to seek approval from anyone to be able to play. When was this bought in? I was at secondary school from 86 - 92 (I stayed on a year in 6th form).

Scorch, Edgar Davids

Don't even understand how tape is meant to hold glasses onto someone's face. For a start they'd have to have literally no hair for it to stick anyway, and then the moment they start to sweat the tape would lose all it's stickiness and come off.

Surely they'd just have those comedy retainers that go round the back of the head/neck instead or just wear lenses if they were even remotely serious sportspeople.

Never seen that.

I wore glasses with plastic lenses and flexible frames. If the opposing team objected then I couldn't play but no one ever did.

They didn't do Mighty Mouse any harm, though he always had Hot-Shot Hamish alongside him to sort anyone out.

Giant specy kid, lobbed my son's teams keeper from way out
(U11s) yesterday. It was classy finish to be fair not sure the Opo manager got the joke about the kid having vision though.
